The TGO Awards

Last month something pretty amazing happened; my adventure buddy Sarah nominated me for Outdoor Personality of the Year in the upcoming TGO (The Great Outdoors magazine) awards AND I GOT SHORTLISTED!!

Now, on it’s own, this would be amazing enough, but my fellow shortlist-ees are as follows:

Alan Hinkes – first British mountaineer to have climbed all 14 mountains with peaks higher than 8,000 metres

Alistair Humphreys – cycled round the world, coined the phrase #Microadventure and got thousands of people sleeping on hill before going to work the next day, National Geographic Adventurer of the Year 2012

Andy Kirkpatrick – climbed El Capitan 29 times, skied across Greenland, guided Alex Jones up Moonlight Buttress in 2012, raising £1.9m for Comic Relief

Chris Bonington CBE – summitted Everest numerous times, first ascent of the south face of Annapurna, climbed the Old Man of Hoy for his 80th birthday

Chris Townsend – to date has hiked all Scottish munros in one continuous journey on foot, hiked the length of the Canadian Rockies, the Pacific Crest Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, Lands End to John o’Groats, the Arizona Trail, the Pacific Northwest Trail and the Scottish Watershed, plus numerous other long distance hikes

Doug Scott CBE – first ascent of the southwest face of Everest

Ed Stafford – first person to walk to the length of the Amazon river. Presenter and adventurer

Joss Naylor MBE – King of the fells, one of the best fell runners ever.

Kate Ashbrook – long time campaigner for open spaces, president of the Ramblers, trustee for the Campaign for National Parks, trustee for the Dartmoor Preservation Society, plus involvement in several other campaigns

Terry Abraham – videographer, produced amazing film Life of a Mountain: A Year on Scafell Pike

And then there’s me.  See why it’s amazing I got shortlisted?!

The Awards evening is next Wednesday at the Kendal Mountain Festival and I am beyond excited at the thought of meeting some of these people! Of them, I’ve been to see four of them speaking so to actually meet them is going to be something special!

Voting for the awards closes on Sunday 15th so this is my last beg for votes!  If you think I deserve to win amongst this list of high achievers, then please vote for me here; http://awards.tgomagazine.co.uk/tgo-awards/readers-awards-shortlists/

Thank you – unless you vote for Chris Bonington, in which case I don’t blame you (I voted for him) but I’m not thanking you! ;-)
